What is cyberbullying?

Cyberbullying is bullying through the use of digital technologies. People use the internet to hurt, intimidate or humiliate someone. It can take place on social media, messaging platforms, gaming platforms and mobile phones. It is repeated behavior intended to frighten, anger or embarrass those targeted. This is found especially among young people, but not only.

How cyberbullying manifets itself?

  • spreading lies about or posting embarrassing photos or videos of someone on social media.
  • sending hurtful, abusive or threatening messages, images or videos via messaging platforms.
  • impersonating someone and sending mean messages to others on their behalf or through fake accounts.

Effects

Cyberbullying is a very serious problem that affects not only the victims but also their families. The effects of cyberbullying are numerous and are not noticeable at first, but they are visible with the passage of time. In most cases, the victim isolates himself from friends and family and finds it difficult to express himself or concentrate on homework.

The victim loses interest in his own pleasures and even hides the messages received on the phone or computer.
